Episode 27: 3 Strategies to Plan Your Social Media and Get Rid of Overwhelm - Part 3 of 4

How to Set House Rules for Your Social Media Accounts

How to Implement Your Personal Boundaries

Okay - so you’ve introduced Social Boundaries, you’ve got your own personal boundaries when it comes to using social, now it’s time to implement some social media strategies that will help you plan out your content without feeling overwhelmed.

  1. CREATE THEMES for your social content and set days for when you want to schedule/post.

    1. For example: on the PSN Instagram I use the following set themes: Monday = quotes, Tuesday = tips, Wednesday = day in the life, Thursday = biz tip, Friday = fun fact!

    2. Themes allow your brain to breathe a sigh of relief because it knows already what you are going to create - you don’t have to create NEW content, just new content for the theme buckets you are already familiar with.

    3. Do not have to post to your feed 5 days a week. I would recommend at least 3.

    4. BUT - show up in stories daily! For a lot of people this is easier bc it’s short videos or snippets of your day that are not as planned.

  2. PLAN MONTH-LONG TOPICS - I LOVE creating content around a theme, and then carrying that theme into a month’s worth of social media.

    1. For example -  on the podcast, we’ve done a mindfulness month, and this month we’re doing social media. What this does is again, makes it easier on your brain because you can create the content in one go, while you’re in the flow and it gives you a chance to do a deeper dive on a certain topic but divide it up over the month!

  3. TIMEBLOCK + CHUNK IT - Once you’ve got your themes and/or topic, it’s time to sit down for one day, 3-4 hours at a time (maybe more!) and plan your entire month at one time in one go.

    1. Example: I use Canva for my IG graphics. Since I already know Monday’s are quotes, when I go to create IG feed content, I can pull 5 quotes, put them all in the same template, download + schedule in Planoly super quickly!

    2. Example: I record all podcasts in a batch! It takes about 2 hours for each podcast, but by chunking them together, I can save myself SO much time.

    3. Now - I get it. This sounds absolutely overwhelming and annoying.

    4. But TRUST ME. There’s a reason experts love time blocking and chunking things - it puts your brain in the flow so that you can create. When you start/stop, do 30 mins here, an hour there, multi-task everywhere, you are robbing yourself of your productivity.

    5. Think about how much freer your weeks will be when you’ve already planned out the next month’s 12-25 social media posts? Yes, you will need to invest half a day (4 hours) to do it, but I can bet that if you did all 12 posts on the day of, you’d be spending an hour a day. What MORE can you do with an extra 6 hours?

When this episode goes live, we’ll be halfway through August 2020. So now is the PERFECT time to get a day on your calendar dedicated to creating your social media plan for September (or whatever is the next month you’re listening to this during!).

Instagram is a tool for your business, not a piece of technology that should control you.

These 3 tips will help you take back your time, produce more, and create better.
