Episode 22: Is In-Person Styling BACK?

Is In-Person Styling BACK?  How to navigate in person services in a post/pre/current COVID world

A question that has been coming up in The Founders Club lately as many states and counties open up slowly after quarantine is…. how in the world are you doing in-person services??

It’s truthfully not a hard question because it’s not really the question at all.

The REAL question is: how do you feel about in-person services and how are you keeping yourself, your family, and your clients safe?

Because whether we like it or not, believe in COVID or not, there are laws to follow and the world is opening.

Just as we had to adjust to going virtual, we need to adjust to the new normal of masks.

So instead of answering the obvious question first, I want you to take a few minutes and ask yourself this question:

Do I want to return to or start in-person services?

Just settle in quietly and see what happens in your body. Do you get a jolt of exciting, tingles in your fingers or arms? Or do you instead feel an uneasiness in your stomach, a wave of nausea?

These are feelings that your body - your unique, only you can tell it body - is speaking to you and it would be in your best interest to listen.

Because at the end of the day, regardless of phases, or what everyone else is doing - if you want to stay virtual or if you want to go back to in person, that’s something only you can decide.

So let’s tackle both scenarios because no doubt you’ll have client who agree AND disagree. Clients who WANT and DON’T WANT what you plan to offer.

#1 - Sticking with Virtual

  • Sticking with virtual at least in some aspect, is going to be a smart business move. Most likely, there will be a spike in COVID cases and we may see stricter stay at home orders in the future. Don’t abandon the virtual services you started just because your home is slowly opening.

  • If you want to stay virtual and not do in person - that totally works. Come up with your reason WHY you are doing this: it’s safer for you and your family, your virtual process is just as good as in-person (and work to make it such!), or this is how you want to operate your business because you’ll be able to reach and serve more clients this way. Your WHY will help you stay the course and when you believe something, you won’t be swayed.

#2 - Going back to In-Person

  • First things first - find out what the regulations are where you live. Everywhere is different but most are requiring masks when indoors. Adding gloves, hand sanitizer, and wipes is also a good idea. Add these to your styling kit and car so that you always have them on hand.

  • Double up on your why AND your policies! Why do you want to go back to in-person? There will no doubt be people who question that decision, so answer the question AND have your safety supplies on hand.

  • Your clients may not be as concerned with you - so this is where your policies come into play. You can create policies that include your new safety precautions and let all of your clients know what these are.

Either way that you want to take your services -

  1. 1. Know your why and what you want to do with your business.

  2. Establish your safety policies and communicate that to your clients frequently and often. This can be through newsletters and direct emails to clients. Don’t forget social media!

  3. Create safety policies and stock up on at least 2 kits with: masks, gloves, hand sanitizers and wipes. Keep them in your car and your kit so that you always have them on hand AND you have an extra for your clients if they don’t have one / forget (especially if you are shopping with them at a store).
