Episode 23: Healing Modalities and the Actual Woo Practices I do Regularly

I am a big fan of the self-care / morning routine and have been doing it consistently for about 3 years now. Today I want to talk about some of the more ”out-there” practices that I do that I really love.

Now, you may be listening and wondering what you’re about to hear, you may think it’s odd or weird, or you may be totally not on the same page saying, girl, give it to me!

No matter where you are on your personal development journey, I want to bring it back home as to WHY I’m even talking about this stuff on a business and personal styling podcast.

You probably agree that your mindset can change the course of your day. You can CHOOSE to either be positive or negative, smile or frown, and if you’ve made a positive or smiling choice, you most likely can see a physical difference in what your  experience.

Harnessing your mindset is one of the most powerful business tools you can ever use. And what I truly truly love about this topic is that it’s EVER expanding. You will never completely master one of these practices because as you shift and overcome one limiting belief or block, a new one will crop up, and you can use the same tools to expand past that as well.

My mentor Suzy Batiz the founder of Pooperi and Supernatural (an all natural cleaning product), taught us a mantra that says, “ I am always expanding in love joy and abundance and inspiring others to do the same.” It’s a reminder that we can ALWAYS expand past what we thought and that we can NEVER shrink back down to where we were pre-expansion.

SO let’s get into the nuts and bolts exactly of some - I’m not sharing ALL my secrets yet - of what I like to practice.

  1. Tarot cards - I grew up being told that cards, energy work, or horoscopes were not something you wanted to mess with. And I do believe that if you want to call up something dangerous and bad, you can, but the way in which I use these cards is as a daily inspiration of something to work through. Just as some would read a Bible verse or other religious scripture and resonate with those words, the cards are a way of bringing you something to look at in your own life, not a way of telling the future. Right now, I use the Wild Unknown deck by Kim Krans and this year I did a 2020 spread that includes an overarching theme for the year, a monthly card, and then I usually do a daily card just to see how it inspires me.

  2. Breathwork - I believe that if something gets brought up you 3 or more times, there’s a pattern that you need to look at it. Breathwork is that something for me and it’s also something that I RESIST really hard. Breathwork is - quite simply - breathing and focusing on your breath for a period of time. But there are different patterns of inhaling and exhaling, setting a session to music, or doing it on your own or with a class. A lot of people experience crying, or feeling overwhelmed with emotions, tightening up of their hand muscles, or a flow of creative ideas. I have been hesitant to participate in breath work because I’m a little afraid of what my subconscious might bring to the surface. It’s a powerful tool! But, whenever I  DO practice this, I feel centered, calm and at peace. If you do it for 10 minutes or more, the effects can last a few hours. If you want to try this, I’d recommend looking up Samantha Skelly in LA or Jolene Dentremont in Canada for guided Zoom classes.

  3. Hypnotherapy - I did my first guided hypnotherapy session a few months ago and it was not like I expected at all. I’m sure all facilitators differ, but it was like a guided meditation that puts you in a relaxed state to talk to your subconscious and reprogram certain beliefs I was taught that hypnotherapy works best when you have a specific issue (say: anxiety in public speaking, or a fear of success) as you’re prompted to ask your subconscious certain questions that lead you to something that typically happened in childhood or throughout your life that has ingrained that particular belief. What is so powerful about hypnotherapy is that it allows you to switch off older beliefs and turn on newer beliefs. It acts as a therapy hack - when working with your subconscious, you can often make faster and more permanent shifts than traditional talk therapy. What I loved about my session, is that my therapist actually walked me through the process so that I can do it on my own - which I have and love.

And if you’re totally into it, here are a few OTHER things on my radar that I’e done, but want to dive deeper into:

  1. EFT Tapping

  2. EMDR

  3. Somatic therapy
