Episode 18: How to Strengthen Your Mindset Armor

Hello and welcome back! I hope everyone had a great week. As I’m writing this, we just wrapped up Mother’s Day. I spent part of the weekend helping my mom from her home to a condo, so it was a really good, but very long day.

All the month of May we’re doing mini-sodes called Mindset Moments - they are designed to be short, easy to listen to inspirational episodes to help you strengthen your mindset.

As some of you may know, I’m currently enrolled in  Alive OS, a mindset transformational course with Suzy Batiz, founder of Poo Pourri. Being in this course is the direct reflection of how I have equipped myself for the mindset battle, how I have overcome so many piercings to my armor, and how I have strengthened that armor which is what we’re going to focus on today.

This mini-side is GOLD so listen carefully. If you’re driving, make a note to come back to jot down the resources, tips, and people I’ll mention throughout.

Let’s dive in!

Okay, so if you’re listened to the first two episodes, you’re beginning to get a 30,000 foot overview of what it takes to craft an intentional and strong mindset. Now, we’re going to zoom in to talk about what you can do on a DAILY basis to strengthen that armor. Just like a soldier trains daily for battle, you need to daily train your mind.

Here are three of the most important practices you can do daily to strengthen your armor:

  1. Self-care checklist - I was first introduced to this concept by Danika Brysha and I have been doing some version of this practice since 2016. The  main premise of a self-care checklist is that you are writing a daily to do list of everything you need to do to feel like the best version of yourself. This can be getting 8 hours of sleep, working out for 30  mins each morning, drinking hot lemon water, journaling, gratitude, affirmations, etc. The checklist becomes a part of your morning routine that you can literally check off (hello, brain dopamines!).  Here’s a sample of what my self-care checklist looked like:

    1. gratitude list - 3 things I’m thankful for and why

    2. affirmations - 3 affirmations

    3. future biography journaling

    4. reading 1-2 pages of an inspiration book

The beautiful thing about a self-care checklist is that it can look like whatever you WANT.  It can be as LONG or as SHORT as you want. I have created checklists that include: working out, showering, eating a Whole 30 inspired breakfast, meditation, gratitude, reading, etc. The important thing here is that through a DAILY practice, I was strengthening my mindset armor.  I will include a downloadable template for you to create your own self-care checklist in the podcast notes (www.chicstripes.com/podcast).

2. Future journaling. I alluded to future journaling in the self-care checklist. Danika also introduced me to this, and more recently I’ve used a different version by Dr. Nicole LePera from The Holistic Psychologist. Basic premise: you are writing a journal entry, or biography for/of yourself from THE FUTURE. What do you want your future to look like 1 year from now, 2, 5, 10? Write that all down, lean into how you’ll feel, and literally, help craft your future. There is so much power in the written word. Let’s jump back to the ALIVE OS course I’m in currently with Suzy.  I have a self care checklist from Dec. 18, 2019 that says:  “Sydney Bass is a digital CEO…. her mentors include Suzy Batiz, James Wedmore, Jim Fortin…” Another from June 21, 19 - her real life mentors include Sarah Blakely and Suzy Batiz.” Before that, my only interaction with Suzy was from IG which was basically me following her, becoming blow away by her journey and success and knowing she had something to teach me. And now, a year later, we’re here.  This is a POWERFUL exercise to do. The more you do it, the easier it becomes and you can truly reach through and dream.

3. Absorption of knowledge. Read and listen to every spiritual, inspirational, manifestation thing you can get your hands on. Going back to the “OGs” as much as you can is helpful for getting a base. And then tapping into the newer resources can help modernize and hit the concepts home for you. Re-read books. As we talked about last week, your brain needs CONSTANT REPETITION to soak in lessons and rewrite your old programming in order to create NEW. OG’s include: Florence Scovel Shinn, Wayne Dryer, Abraham Hicks. Newer ones include: Dr. Joe Dispenza, Katherine Zenkina, James Wedmore, Jim Fortin, Jen Scinero. These are people I personally love listening to and get something from. Others that may resonate with you may include: Marie Forleo, Gabby Bernstein, and who knows who else! The point is that you are DOUSING your mind, day and night, with positive news. You’ll know when it’s right - you’ll feel light, good, energetic, on fire. When you surround yourself with negativity, you’ll notice you feel down, heavy, not great. For these types of books, I like to borrow them from the library and when I really love them, I’ll purchase them so I have my own copies I can read over and over again. I’ve read Jen Sincero’s You are a Badass at Making money probably 5 times. Every time I’ve gotten something different from it.

If you want to be a successful personal stylist running your own business, then strengthening your mindset armor DAILY is a REQUIREMENT. Let’s recap these three things you can do:

  1. Create and use a daily self-care checklist. Start small with gratitude and build up from there for what works for you.

  2. Write a future journal and biography. Put pen to paper and co-create your future.

  3. Read, listen, read, listen. Repeat. Invest in a library, start your day with something inspirational.

Okay, that’s it for today’s mini-sode, tune in next week for our last installment in this series!
